Healthy Greater Cambridge
Since April 2025, the Cambridge Room, in collaboration with Urban Habitats, has developed a bold new vision for a Healthy Greater Cambridge — encompassing both South Cambridgeshire and Cambridge City.

About Urban Habitats
Urban Habitats is a creative, transdisciplinary research and design practice working internationally in the field of healthy urbanism. Urban Habitats' work is underpinned by values of: working to address population health; planetary health; reducing inequalities; creating with communities; and taking an evidence-informed approach.
Good health is a right for every citizen.
Yet, proposals that could more than double the population of Greater Cambridge are gathering pace, driven by a narrow growth agenda: build, baby, build. Too often, this approach prioritises housing numbers over homes, GDP over sustainable services, and economic expansion over planetary health and nature.
Greater Cambridge is globally recognised for innovation, business, and leadership. But it risks falling behind. As one of the most unequal cities in the UK, its continued success depends on inclusive and balanced growth. Today, some of the most innovative thinking and leadership on health and climate can be found in communities labelled as ‘deprived’. Current development proposals risk displacing these citizens — and the solutions they bring.
Healthy Greater Cambridge offers an alternative: a future where everyone benefits from the best that Greater Cambridge can be.
