Map Murmurations

Map Murmurations is a collaborative project between Cambridge organisations working together to prevent frailty and bring generations together through creative community engagement. Like a murmuration, this project is bringing together individuals and groups working across Cambridge who share common goals, but historically work separately without communication about learning and best practice. Along the way this project is likely to take on a fluid, murmuration-like shape, rather than a straight line.

By using mapping as a fun and accessible tool, we encourage people of all ages and abilities to explore their local surroundings—whether that’s a park, a street, or even their own home.

The average age for frailty onset in the UK is 69. Yet nearly 1 in 5 people aged 50–64 already experience mild to moderate frailty (NIHR). The good news is that staying active at any age can help prevent frailty or lessen its effects. Frailty is not an inevitable part of ageing—it’s preventable, and the earlier you start moving, the better. We also know that young and older people can face the same challenges when it comes to going out. We hope that mapping can build connections between generations and help people of all ages to connect with their local area.

Together with artist Kaitlin Ferguson, we’ve created a Map Pack filled with tips and inspiration to help you make your own personalised map.
